Mountains flow forever: acrylic on canvas36" x 48"Mountains flow forever: acrylic on canvas36" x 48"Gavin Livingstone paints sacred space. He paints color abstract extractions from the heart of the Whistler mountains. His sumptuous sensuous explosive use of color becomes food for the soul.

He has traveled extensively visiting the world’s sacred sites. Likened to the esoteric art of Nicholas Roerich, Livingstone’s paintings are transcendental, conveying a universal spiritual vision, bridging multi-levels of consciousness, stripping away veils to unlock the secrets from the heart of the mountains.

“With bold strokes from his pallet knife followed by juicy finger flicks of dripping paint, Livingstone accomplishes in a few minutes what many artists would take painstaking detail to do.”

Livingstone was born and raised in Oxford England. After studying Agriculture at the University of Edinburgh, he spent four years shepherding in Conneramara, West Ireland. His deep connection with nature inspired him to travel extensively, seeking the experience of “Sacred Space” in other lands. Livingstone returned to the U.K. where he spent time at Findhorn, a world-renowned spiritual community. Inspired by the work there, he discovered his own gifts of healing.

He journeyed to Glastonbury, where he established the Shambhala Healing Centre, a holistic centre devoted to facilitating spiritual growth. He has lectured extensively and facilitated workshops throughout the U.K., Europe, and the North America.

Livingstone’s strong connection with the land, combined with this extensive background in shamanism and spiritual healing are powerfully infused within each of his pieces.

“I paint Sacred Space to raise awareness of the incredible impact which nature has upon our consciousness,” says Livingstone. “I choose to paint amongst these special lands and I feel passionately that these landscapes are sacred to us all. Our presence here is all of our stewardship responsibility. This relationship to the land, air, water, trees, and all of life around us is of prime importance, for it is the very life we breathe. It unifies us all. It is here in Sacred Space we truly meet.”

“Nature has taught me to see the landscape as a living, breathing being to which we are intimately connected. My paintings are a way for nature to speak to you as it speaks to me.”

“As I invite Good Creator to come and paint with me, I surrender, and witness Creator and its creation creating beauty together.”

The same inner magic that Emily Carr painted in her trees, Livingstone paints in his mountain landscapes. Art collectors have referred to Livingstone as Whistler’s own Van Gogh. Viewing his art is a rare opportunity to look beneath the surface of what you see and enter the dancing rhythms of nature and participate in the act of creation. The eye of the viewer is forced to surrender again and again to inspire their imagination.

Livingstone’s most recent series entitled “An Inner Journey” is a metamorphosis of art and music exploding with holographic fractals in motion. Many of his energetic works are painted live with the synergy of hot musicians and dancers.

“Gavin Livingstone paints sumptuous scintillating explosive beauty of nature that is music for the eyes and food for the soul !”

The spiritual power of Whistler’s beauty is reflected in his work. He regularly exhibits his works in Vancouver and Whistler. His paintings grace homes and offices here in Whistler and throughout Canada and the world.

“Painting here has taught me the art of being harmless, and how vital it is to be aware of our impact on nature and how that impacts us.”

Livingstone’s dedication to the Whistler area during the past few years is evident in his charitable contributions to various children’s festivals, participation in Whistler Arts Experience, Artrageous, the Whistler Farmer’s Market, and three years as a director on the Whistler Arts Council. He is strongly committed to furthering the arts and culture.

He painted live in a diverse multi-media and dance presentation in Whistler 2003, as part of the successful Vancouver Olympic bid celebrations. He was commissioned to paint live as part of Tourism Whistler’s contribution to Tourism Canada’s promotion of B.C. in Seattle in 2005.

Currently he has established his Sacred Space Studio on Cortes Island and is busily painting and working on various multi-media projects to be presented later in 2007. He is working with a collective of artists from around the world to produce visual imagery to express the Sacred Space landscapes in which we live. This project will involve live music, dance, digital imagery of the landscape, spoken word and painting. This project will be part of his contribution to the artistic lead up to the Olympics.

He can be found at the Whistler Farmer’s market on Sundays during the summer, and in the village painting live.

He is available for commissions, murals, and multi-media, as well as lectures, workshops and exhibitions.
